How to stop rushing at work?

When I am at work, I find myself working hard trying to get as much done as possible without taking a break (or breathing!) It's a vicious cycle which feels like I'm always rushing. This is very energy draining. It's a old habit that I want to stop. I think I have a belief that I have to work hard and do as much as possible to be worthy of my pay, as well as fear there isn't enough time.

How can I let go so I can work mindfully and peacefully? Thank you for your help!

I hope someone replies. I am no longer employed, but I have continued to do this anyway. Then, I have been too spent to do anything for a day or two, or three.

I have come to the realization that the only thing worse than having a job is not having one...how unspeakably long the day can get without an occupation is a threat to sanity.

Um, thanks? Nancy, sorry I jumped on your bandwagon. My answer would be to welcome all that and release on whatever want comes up. Also, I stop to ground myself periodically invarious ways (releasing, meditation, deep breaths, etc.).

Thank you for your reply! That makes sense! I just have to make sure I make a point of doing this instead of neglecting myself and keep doing work stuff (and also stop rushing in my personal life).

Good luck in getting a job! Hopefully this releasing technique will help you as well!

    Hi Nancyleon,

Here is a process you can do that I think can help:

Feelings actually come up with opposites and in that situation the opposite for rushing is to calm down.
You can do a holistic releasing for that and also when the rushing comes up it can dissolve easier.

Could you allow yourslef to welcome that habit of rushing at work? Could you welcome whatever feelings it is bringing up?
Could you allow yourself to welcome the feeling of calming down at work? Could you welcome whatever it is bringing up?
Could you allow yourslef to welcome that habit of rushing at work? Could you welcome whatever feelings it is bringing up?
Could you allow yourself to welcome the feeling of calming down at work? Could you welcome whatever it is bringing up?

Just allow yourself to do it a couple of times, until it feels neutral. There might come up different feelings on both sides which is okay.
As you welcome both opposites you would find your self more open.

    All the best

A little practical advice. Make a list of all the things needing done. and just pic 5 throw out the other list. Then circle one. work on that. then go to the next. Then whatever doesn't get done doesn't get done. This has been used by CEO's of major companies. Releasing on wanting to get everything done NOW or releasing on doing to get approval of others or to feel worthy helped me. Letting go of a need to feel in control helped me as well on house cleaning and house hold chores.
