'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' Syndrome: How to Not Live Life Well by Not Cherishing the Present

You probably know the words to 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow,' especially the part that goes:
    Somewhere over the rainbow
    Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
    Really do come true

Hopefully, however, you don't believe them. Not that there's anything wrong with daring to dream or wishing upon a star. The problem arises when you're constantly looking over the rainbow, and into the future, to find them.

Let’s use an example. Perhaps you are dreaming about the day you’ll fit into your size 4 pants again. Or the day you’ll make enough money to buy a six-bedroom house. Or the day you’ll get to retire from your job. When THAT day comes, THEN you’ll be happy.

What is wrong with this tendency to anxiously await the future? Quite simply, you miss out on today. In time, and perhaps when it’s too late, you may then look back and realize that you never truly lived because you were always waiting for something else to happen.

“Happiness is always here now as the presence of awareness that you are. But anytime you postpone your happiness for some future event you deny yourself access to this happiness,” says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training of Sedona Training Associates.

This premise is what lies at the heart of Eckhart Tolle's newest book, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's True Purpose, and also at the heart of The Sedona Method.

Tolle's book is literally a manifesto for bringing the presence that you are into manifestation on a planetary scale and thereby bringing a new earth into being. Part of this is learning that you can live life NOW, not tomorrow, and certainly not yesterday.

Where A New Earth gives you suggestions how you can live life now, The Sedona Method is the tool that will help ground this new vision in your physical world.

    Now is All There Is

“If you are waiting for something to change or some future event to happen before you allow yourself to be happy, you will find that the future never comes,” Dwoskin says. “When you are waiting to be happy you are also waiting to live. Life only happens now.”

“The best thing to do is to let go and allow yourself to bring the happiness that you are into your experience now and into whatever activity you are engaged in now,” Dwoskin adds. “By doing this you enjoy life more now and you also find that you get more done with great ease and joy.”

So please take the time to explore, or deepen your use of, The Sedona Method. It can show you how to easily release your apprehension, wants or fears about the future so you are truly free to just be right now.
