  • Six Simple Things You Can Do Anytime to Clear Negative Emotions

    If not dealt with properly, common negative emotions can spiral out of control and morph into all-consuming, health-harming nightmares. Even under the best circumstances, all of us become angry, stressed, anxious or fearful from time to time, but right now the economic situation in the United States appears to be causing even more negative emotions than usual.

    A USA Today/Gallup Poll found, in fact, that 53 percent of U.S. consumers are angry about their financial situation and 40 percent are afraid.

    How can you deal with negative emotions such as these? Use the tips that follow to simply clear them from your mind.
    • Realize that your emotions are not facts. That is, they do not have to be, and you do not have to hold onto them.

    “All emotions are simply that, emotions. They are not facts. They are not you,” says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training of Sedona Training Associates.
    • Let them go. 'Since your emotions are not facts, you can let them go using The Sedona Method. Even allowing yourself to be open to this as a possibility starts to lessen the sting of any emotion,' Dwoskin says. 'Whenever you are experiencing any emotion including stress, fear, anger or angst of any kind, remember you can let it go.'

    “Letting go is the quickest, easiest and most effective way to clear any emotion no matter how strong and no matter how justified. So allow yourself to give yourself the inner gift of freedom that comes from letting go,” he says.
    • Welcome how you feel. “The simplest way to start the process of letting go is to allow yourself to welcome how you feel and then allow yourself to let go of how you feel as best you can,” Dwoskin says. “Remember releasing is natural. We are always doing something with our emotions so we might as well allow ourselves to let them go.
    • Stop resisting the feelings. As you welcome your negative emotions, you will feel your resistance to them drop, which is key to clearing them from your mind. Why? Because resisting feelings of any kind is only causing you to focus on them more intently.
    • Forgive quickly. When you let go of a grudge, you can expect to feel like a weight has been lifted off of your shoulders.
    • Laugh. Laughter prompts your body to release the feel-good chemicals known as endorphins. Endorphins are your body’s natural painkillers, and they also contribute to a sense of well-being. It is thought that endorphins may actually counteract the negative effects of stress.

    We highly recommend that you add more laughter to your own life, but we also know that you can't realistically go around laughing ALL the time.
